A friend recently inquired about whether it is possible to use lifting straps instead of trailer ropes when an off-road vehicle is stranded?
As is well known, lifting straps are commonly used hoisting equipment in lifting operations, with extremely high strength. If we only look at the strength aspect, using lifting straps as trailer ropes seems to have no problem, and even has a slight sense of overusing. However, in fact, this is not the case.
Lifting straps belong to static ropes, which means they have no elasticity; And the trailer rope belongs to the power rope, which has good elasticity. When towing, the trapped vehicle will be directly pulled by the lifting belt, which can easily cause damage to the vehicle without any buffering effect.
And the towing rope does not need to worry about this problem. The towing rope will gradually gain greater and greater elastic potential energy, which will be applied to the stranded vehicle. This is equivalent to giving the vehicle a period of adaptation time in advance, and then all the tension will be attached to the stranded vehicle.
Merely judging from strength is meaningless. It is more important to analyze the characteristics of lifting belts and trailer ropes, which is the main reason why lifting belts cannot be used as trailer ropes.
